[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] The number of new domestic COVID-19 cases in South Korea has remained in the 7,000 range for three consecutive days. As the spread of COVID-19 continues, the number of critically ill patients has also stayed in the mid-800s for three days straight.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters, as of midnight on the 10th, 6,983 domestic cases and 39 imported cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of new cases to 7,022. The cumulative total number of confirmed cases reached 503,606 (including 16,016 imported cases).
The number of new cases has stayed in the 7,000 range for three consecutive days. Although it decreased by 80 from the previous day, it remains in the 7,000s, showing a rapid increase again after the "With Corona" policy was implemented last month, easing quarantine measures. The cumulative number of confirmed cases surpassed 400,000 on the 17th of last month and exceeded 500,000 in about three weeks.
By region, Seoul reported 2,786 cases, Gyeonggi 2,022 cases, and Incheon 463 cases, with the metropolitan area accounting for 75.5% (5,271 cases). Other regions reported: Busan 303, Daegu 163, Gwangju 35, Daejeon 157, Ulsan 43, Sejong 10, Gangwon 150, Chungbuk 94, Chungnam 158, Jeonbuk 97, Jeonnam 69, Gyeongbuk 182, Gyeongnam 204, and Jeju 47.
As of midnight on the same day, three new domestic infections of the Omicron variant were confirmed. The cumulative number of Omicron infections stands at 63, including 15 imported cases and 48 domestic cases.
The number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 53, bringing the total to 4,130, with a fatality rate of 0.82%. The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized is 852, down by 5 from the previous day. The number of critically ill patients has remained in the 800s for three consecutive days since the 8th (840 → 857 → 852).
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced that as of midnight on the 10th, 44,915 people received their first dose, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 42,871,274. Among them, 54,713 completed their second dose, totaling 41,568,595 people who have completed the second dose. The third (booster) dose was administered to 439,915 people, with a total of 5,289,734 having received the booster shot.
