Korea-Poland Sign New Airport Development MOU... Accelerating Domestic Companies' Market Entry (Data provided by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport)

The entry of our companies into the Polish new airport development project, with a total business scale reaching 10 trillion won, is expected to accelerate.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 9th at 6:30 PM (local time 10:30 AM) that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation on the new airport development with Poland.

At the signing ceremony held in Warsaw, Poland, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Noh Hyung-wook, Marcin Horała, Poland’s Special Plenipotentiary for Airports at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Kim Kyung-wook, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, and Mikołaj Wild, President of the Polish New Airport Company, attended.

The Polish new airport project is a government-led initiative aiming to build the largest airport in Central and Eastern Europe to replace the existing gateway airport, Warsaw Chopin Airport.

Along with the new airport, plans for a comprehensive transport hub (STH) including extensive infrastructure development such as railroads, roads, and urban development are also underway. The total project scale amounts to approximately 10 trillion won.

Currently, the project is in the basic planning stage, and the project scale and methods will be specified through the establishment of a master plan (MP) next year. This MOU is an advanced form of the memorandum signed by both countries in February regarding cooperation on the comprehensive transport hub development project.

It is expected that once the project is fully launched, opportunities for participation by domestic companies, including Incheon International Airport Corporation, will increase significantly.

Minister Noh is visiting Poland from the 7th to the 10th, using the occasion of signing the MOU on new airport development cooperation to conduct various diplomatic activities aimed at supporting the overseas construction advancement of our companies and strengthening cooperation with the Organization for Cooperation of Railways (OSJD).

On the 8th, Minister Noh held a bilateral meeting with Andrzej Adamczyk, Poland’s Minister of Infrastructure, to discuss cooperation plans for Poland’s high-speed rail projects. He also visited the site of Poland’s largest incinerator construction project, currently being carried out by domestic companies, to encourage businesspeople and on-site workers.

Minister Noh stated, "The signing of the MOU on new airport development cooperation marks an important turning point in infrastructure cooperation between the two countries," and added, "we will actively support our companies to enter various fields through this."
