[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 9th that Cheongsando Port, a national fishing port, has been selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' 'National Fishing Port Public Design Guideline Pilot Project.'
The 'National Fishing Port Public Design Guideline' is a project that applies public design from the initial stages such as planning and design of national fishing ports, considering the functional and spatial characteristics that fishing ports should have, and harmonizing with the surrounding landscape to create a safe and convenient environment for use.
Until now, fishing port facilities have been designed focusing solely on usability for fishermen without considering the landscape, but recently, as the number of anglers and tourists enjoying marine leisure activities has increased, the users of fishing ports are diversifying. Accordingly, environmental improvements tailored to the diverse demands of national fishing port users have been required.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries established the scope and targets of application, roles by management entities, basic directions and principles of public design, and operation of advisory committees in the 'National Fishing Port Public Design Guideline,' and subdivided national fishing ports into 49 types by space and facility, presenting guidelines for design elements such as layout, form, and color for each type.
In addition, to prioritize the application of public design to national fishing ports, one port each on the east, west, and south coasts, totaling three ports, will be selected to operate pilot projects.
The three ports are Cheongsando Port in Wando, Jeollanam-do; Gyeokpo Port in Buan, Jeonbuk; and Jeongja Port in Ulsan. These ports plan to include public design in their project plans starting next year to renovate port spaces and facilities.
Meanwhile, Cheongsando Port is currently undergoing the 'National Fishing Port (Cheongsando Port) Maintenance Project' commissioned by the Mokpo Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, with a total construction cost of 54.2 billion KRW, aiming to reinforce breakwaters and expand berthing facilities by 2026. The public design pilot project will be conducted separately from the national fishing port (Cheongsando Port) maintenance project.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, "We will do our best to promote the project to provide a pleasant and attractive environment for users of Cheongsando Port through the national fishing port maintenance project and the national fishing port public design guideline pilot project."
