[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Hyundai Department Store Group has donated 200 million KRW in support funds to the families of firefighters who died in the line of duty.
Hyundai Department Store Group announced on the 9th that it held a 'Support Fund Delivery Ceremony for Families of Fallen Firefighters.' The ceremony took place in the morning at the Fire Agency in the Government Complex Sejong, Sejong City, attended by Hyundai Department Store President Kim Hyung-jong and Fire Agency Commissioner Lee Heung-gyo, among others.
The donated support fund of 200 million KRW will be used for the 'Parangsae Scholarship (supporting 2 to 3 million KRW in tuition fees)' for about 50 children (elementary, middle, and high school students) of fallen firefighters recommended by the Fire Agency, as well as for improving the living conditions and providing psychological treatment for the bereaved families.
Since 2008, Hyundai Department Store Group has been providing scholarships and living expenses annually to the families of fallen firefighters. Including this recent donation, a total of 1.9 billion KRW has been delivered to about 600 bereaved families over 14 years.
Since 2011, Hyundai Department Store Group has also been conducting support projects for children of fallen police officers and police officers injured in the line of duty. Up to last year, scholarships totaling 2.47 billion KRW have been provided to about 1,300 recipients.
Hyundai Department Store President Kim Hyung-jong said, "We deliver support funds annually to honor the noble spirit of firefighters who sacrificed themselves to save others' lives. We hope that this small gesture will be of some help to the families of fallen firefighters."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Department Store Group operates the 'Parangsae Support Project,' which supports the welfare improvement of underprivileged children. The project focuses on three core areas: healthy growth, talent development, and medical and rehabilitation fields, carrying out a total of 20 programs including support for children with incurable diseases and promising low-income youth athletes.
