2022 Nohwa Mira Port Project Plan Selected for the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project ⓒ Asia Economy
[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) has participated in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Fishing Village New Deal 300 contest project from 2019 to this year, with 2 sites selected in 2019, 4 sites in 2020, 2 sites in 2021, and 1 site in 2022, totaling 9 sites. They have secured a total project cost of 82.46 billion KRW and are accelerating project implementation.
The 'Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project' is a community-based living SOC project that supports innovative growth in fishing villages by modernizing outdated infrastructure such as piers and developing integrated fishing village and harbor projects reflecting local characteristics.
The Solji Port in Nohwa and Gahak Port in Geumdang, selected in 2019, are investing 10.4 billion KRW and conducting projects over three years, scheduled to be completed early next year.
At Solji Port in Nohwa, projects include reinforcing the passenger ship berth, constructing a new waiting room, and establishing harbor facilities such as reinforcing the pier and wharf.
Gahak Port in Geumdang is implementing resident living condition improvement projects such as expanding safety facilities on Gahak coastal road, remodeling the Fishermen's Happiness Welfare Center, and creating a Happy Playground, as well as establishing a Fishermen's Cooperative Space and modernizing pier docking facilities.
The ports selected in 2020?Shingu Port in Geumil, Dangin Port in Gunoe, Myeongsa Port in Sinji, and Modo Port in Cheongsan?are advancing projects with a total budget of 40.8 billion KRW through 2022.
Main projects include basic harbor facility construction such as breakwater and wharf expansion. At Shingu Port in Geumil, youth rest areas, a return-to-fishing center, a housewives' rest area called 'Eoyeogaja,' and a children's study room called 'Kkumteo' will be built.
Dangin Port in Gunoe plans to establish a youth return-to-fishing center and senior welfare facilities, as well as maintain the fishermen's forest and village flower paths.
At Myeongsa Port in Sinji, projects include installing floating piers, creating a Myeongsa Port management center, harbor facility maintenance, and building a healing center to improve residents' living conditions.
At Modo Port in Cheongsan, priority projects include constructing a new waiting room, reinforcing the passenger ship berth, and building a car ferry dock. Additionally, a seaweed cooperative workshop, a 'Mung Ttaerim' beach park, and a guest house will be established.
The ports selected in 2021?Eodu Port in Yaksan and Mira Port in Soan?will invest a total of 20.1 billion KRW, complete administrative procedures such as basic planning, and start construction next year to complete the projects by 2023.
Next year, Mira Port in Nohwa and the passenger ship port project at Dongsong Port in Geumil have been selected, securing a total of 11.2 billion KRW. Basic and detailed designs will be conducted next year to prioritize living SOC projects.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, "Based on living SOC projects, we will solidly promote the Fishing Village New Deal 300 project that develops fishing villages by building harbor facilities and improving living environments tailored to local characteristics to create vibrant fishing villages." He added, "We will continue to attract central government contest projects to improve residents' quality of life, expand production infrastructure, and establish a stable income base."
