[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyeon-jin] Jung Cheol-dong, CEO of LG Innotek, will receive the '31st Haedong Technology Award' from the Korean Institute of Electronics Engineers.
The Haedong Technology Award was established by the late Kim Jeong-sik, chairman of Daeduck Electronics and founder of the Haedong Science and Culture Foundation, to honor individuals who have made significant achievements in the academic and technological development of the electronics engineering field. This year, the award ceremony will be held on the 10th. According to LG Innotek on the 9th, CEO Jung was selected as this year's recipient in recognition of his contributions to the localization of components and the enhancement of global competitiveness in the materials and components industry.
CEO Jung is regarded as a specialized executive in the materials and components sector. He joined LG Semiconductor in 1984 and has worked at major affiliates such as LG Display, LG Chem, and LG Innotek, leading efforts to secure core technologies in the materials and components industry, develop differentiated products, and innovate production technologies and processes.
While at LG Display, he promoted the localization of key production equipment, led the market for large-size and ultra-high-resolution TVs, and established a foundation for preempting the next-generation organic light-emitting diode (OLED) market. At LG Chem, he enhanced competitiveness in information electronics and the materials industry through the development of advanced technologies and materials for automobiles, OLED TVs, and semiconductor packaging.
Since 2019, as CEO of LG Innotek, he has been active in business areas such as optical solutions, substrate materials, and automotive components. In the optical solutions field, he accelerated product development and solidified the world's number one position in smartphone camera and 3D sensing modules. In substrate materials, he led industrial competitiveness improvements with globally leading products, including the world's thinnest communication semiconductor substrates. In automotive components, he successfully developed world-first products such as vehicle 5G communication modules and vehicle Wi-Fi 6E modules.
In the future materials field, last year he succeeded in developing the world's most power-loss-efficient 'high-efficiency magnetic material' by utilizing digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI)-based simulation techniques for the first time in the industry. In September, he also attracted industry attention by unveiling the world's highest-performance 'eco-friendly magnet' that minimizes the use of heavy rare earth elements.
