Ministry of Science and ICT Holds 'Artificial Intelligence Grand Challenge Awards Ceremony'

10 Teams Selected for Final Stage of Artificial Intelligence Grand Challenge

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced on the 9th that it held the ‘2021 Artificial Intelligence Grand Challenge Awards Ceremony.’

The ‘Artificial Intelligence Grand Challenge’ competition is an R&D contest where participants compete based on voluntary preliminary research conducted to solve the given problems. This year’s AI Grand Challenge featured four competitions held since June, where AI researchers competed in problem-solving skills according to the competition themes.

A total of 169 research teams participated in this year’s AI Grand Challenge. Based on their results, 10 teams received Ministerial Awards: the top 1st to 3rd place teams in the 3rd competition’s 3 stages, the 1st place teams in each of the 4 fields of the 4th competition’s 3 stages, and the top 1st to 3rd place teams in the 2 stages of the 5th competition. Additionally, 8 teams that placed 2nd and 3rd in each field of the 4th competition’s 3 stages received the President’s Award from the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP).

The 10 teams awarded the Ministerial Award will receive follow-up research funding of up to 475 million KRW per team and will be granted the right to participate in the final stage of the AI Grand Challenge scheduled for next year based on their follow-up research.
