'Preventing Unfair Contracts' 'Supporting Freelancers'... Seoul City, Best Policy Idea Finals

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The best policy idea among those submitted to reflect the perspectives of young people in Seoul's youth policies will be decided on the 11th.

Seoul City is receiving policy ideas from young people on four themes: ▲Fair and Coexistent Society ▲Work and Future ▲Life and Leisure ▲Youth Living Spaces. To select outstanding ideas, a final competition involving policy proposal discussions is being held. From April 4th to 5th, a 1-on-1 tournament format was used to determine the four teams advancing to the semifinals. Proposals that resonated with the 2030 youth generation, such as remedies for unfair contract damages suffered by young people, creation of a sustainable freelancer ecosystem, youth depression and leisure, and support for youth housing independence, made it to the semifinals.

The four semifinalist teams participated in expert mentoring conducted by the Seoul Institute over two days, April 6th and 7th, to strengthen their policy proposals and concretize them to a level ready for immediate implementation, intensifying their final preparations for the championship. The semifinals and finals will be held on the 11th, with the final match starting at 1 p.m. on the same day. Mayor Oh Se-hoon will attend the finals as a judge to directly listen to the policies proposed by the youth and evaluate their feasibility for policy implementation. The finals can be watched live on Seoul City's official YouTube channel.

The winning team of the final, selected as the best idea, will receive a prize of 10 million KRW and an opportunity to participate in the review and advisory process of Seoul City's youth policies. At the awards ceremony, the winning team will represent the participating teams and deliver a booklet containing the policy proposals carefully developed by the youth participants during the competition to Mayor Oh Se-hoon in a 'policy delivery ceremony.' The 32 policy ideas from the teams that advanced to the finals and were delivered to Mayor Oh will be further developed through follow-up research by the Seoul Institute and will be realized as actual policies through Seoul City's Future Youth Planning Group.

Kim Cheol-hee, head of the Future Youth Planning Group, said, “Through this debate competition, we were able to vividly understand the overall social difficulties faced by the 2030 youth generation, and we will strive to actively reflect the proposals made by young people in city administration.”
