[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The police have launched an investigation into allegations that Kang Pil-young, acting mayor of Jongno District Office, sexually harassed a subordinate employee.
According to the police on the 8th, the Women and Juvenile Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency recently received a case from the Seongbuk Police Station in which employee A of the Jongno District Office filed a complaint against Acting Mayor Kang for sexual harassment and other charges under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, including abuse of authority in the workplace, and has begun an investigation.
A, who was Acting Mayor Kang's secretary, claimed to have suffered habitual sexual harassment and sexual misconduct from July last year to October this year. On the other hand, Acting Mayor Kang denied the allegations and filed a counter-complaint against A at the Jongno Police Station on charges of attempted extortion.
The Jongno District Office entered an acting mayor system after former Jongno District Mayor Kim Young-jong resigned on the 1st of last month to run in next year's Jongno District by-election for the National Assembly.
