2nd Industrial Technology Future Forum
Industry-Academia-Research Experts Propose 4N Strategy
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] To achieve a great leap in new industries, it was suggested that the government should implement the '4N' strategy, which includes the data economy (New gDp), carbon neutrality (Net Zero), new technology innovation (Next Technology), and network competitiveness (Neo Network).
On the 9th, industry-academia-research experts presented this policy agenda at the '2nd Industrial Technology Future Forum' hosted by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the National Assembly’s Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Enterprises Committee.
This forum was prepared to collectively consider and discuss the 4N strategy for a great leap in new industries, by organizing 22 policy agendas derived from over 20 sessions of discussions involving more than 110 industry-academia-research experts since April this year, aimed at responding to internal and external environmental changes such as digital transformation and climate change.
First, Kim Seon-jae, a research fellow at the Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP), emphasized that to secure leadership in the era of industrial digital transformation, it is important to establish an industrial data utilization support system, including support for data trading platforms, artificial intelligence (AI) analysis systems, cloud adoption, and the establishment of data cooperation networks.
Professor Lee Hang-gu of Hoseo University mentioned that active carbon neutrality implementation requires support for restructuring domestic companies toward the eco-friendly automobile industry and the establishment of smart grid energy networks in industrial complexes.
Next, Lee Kwang-ho, senior research fellow at the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), highlighted the necessity of creating a business investment environment friendly to new technologies, such as regulatory reforms to resolve investment uncertainties. Professor Kwak Dong-chul of Hannam University proposed strategies to respond to the crisis caused by global supply chain restructuring, including building a super-regional industrial economic zone and supporting the digitalization and diversification of supply chains to foster global leading companies.
Minister Moon Seung-wook of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said in his welcoming remarks, "Today’s forum is very meaningful as the government, National Assembly, and industry-academia-research sectors come together to seek ways to secure the future competitiveness of our industry and establish a stable supply chain." He added, "The government will make multifaceted efforts to create an ecosystem where all innovation actors in Korea can achieve industrial technology innovation in this era of industrial transformation."
