[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 8th that it will hold a naming contest for the new name of the Bomunsan Wooden Observatory from the 8th to the 14th.
The Bomunsan Wooden Observatory will be rebuilt in a wooden structure by June 2024 after demolishing the existing observatory. This observatory, located on the mid-slope of Bomunsan in Daesadong, Jung-gu, is planned to be designed and constructed with a total floor area of 1,226.43㎡, consisting of a basement floor, two above-ground floors for the general building, and a 48.5m high observation tower.
The contest is being held to give a name that reflects the meaning of the newly selected wooden observatory from last month's design competition and that resonates with citizens and represents the observatory.
Any citizen residing in Daejeon can participate in the contest. Applications can be submitted by downloading the application form from the city hall website's news section and sending it via email.
After receiving the submissions, the city plans to select the winning entry within this month through a review by a panel of experts and a citizen preference survey. The final results will be announced on the city website and notified individually.
The winner will receive a total prize of 5 million KRW (1 million KRW for the grand prize winner), awarded in the form of Ontong Daejeon policy allowance.
For more detailed information about the contest, please refer to the city hall website or contact the Tourism Marketing Division of the city hall.
Son Cheol-woong, Director of the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the city, said, “The contest is being held to choose a name that harmonizes with the newly established eco-friendly wooden observatory and resonates with many citizens,” and added, “We hope for active participation and interest from citizens.”
