[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Golden Blue announced on the 8th that it has started sales at an urban duty-free shop located in Hainan, China. It is the first Korean local whiskey.
Golden Blue signed a contract in August to enter the Hainan duty-free shop for whiskey sales. The contracted product is ‘Golden Blue Sapphire,’ which is sold at the Hainan Yeyou Duty-Free Shop.
Launched in 2012, ‘Golden Blue Sapphire’ is the top-selling whiskey product in Korea. It uses 100% Scottish whiskey raw material and features a mild alcohol content of 36.5 degrees.
The ‘Golden Blue Sapphire’ introduced at the Hainan duty-free shop this time has been newly produced in the most popular 750ml package in the global duty-free market, rather than the existing sizes (330ml, 450ml).
Golden Blue is actively expanding its overseas distribution network and leading the globalization of K-liquor. In 2010, through thorough localization marketing centered on Shanghai, China, it became the number one Korean-style export whiskey within six months of export.
In particular, in January of this year, it started exports to the United States, the world's largest liquor market, as the first domestic local whiskey, and is currently exported to a total of eight countries including the United States.
Kim Dongwook, CEO of Golden Blue, said, “China was Golden Blue’s first export country and has played an important role in expanding overseas markets such as Vietnam and Malaysia. Through continuous investment, we will expand the scale of overseas exports and continue the company’s external growth to develop Golden Blue into a global company.”
