Replacing Yonsei University Student ID with Naver App... Student and Alumni Verification Service Launched

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Naver Certificate is rapidly expanding its use beyond cyber universities to university campuses.

On the 8th, Naver announced the launch of the ‘Naver Yonsei University Student Alumni Verification’ service, which allows Yonsei University students to access library entry and book borrowing offline.

Accordingly, about 420,000 current students and alumni of Yonsei University’s Sinchon, Mirae, and International campuses can easily verify their alumni status using their student ID number and Naver Certificate, and can enter campus libraries and borrow books using QR codes.

Previously, Naver established a system allowing about 40,000 Yonsei University students to use the Naver Certificate for portal login, and applied it to ‘LearnUs,’ the nation’s first open online platform operated by Yonsei University and accessible to domestic and international university students.

In the future, Naver is considering various benefits such as using the Naver student ID as an identity verification method on Naver Expert and Band, alumni discount coupons usable on Naver Shopping, and offline campus student discounts.

The Naver Certificate boasts numerous partnerships and convenience in the education sector. It has partnerships with 13 domestic cyber universities and educational institutions including Kyung Hee Cyber University, Sejong Cyber University, and Korea Cyber University, with about 50,000 enrolled students using it daily. It enables easy exam taking, lecture attendance, and assignment submission.

Additionally, Naver Qualifications, with 2.4 million users, currently offers about 590 types of national and private certifications including those from the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea. It is linked with employment portals Saramin, JobKorea, and Jinhaksa Catch, gaining high popularity among job seekers and university students.

Hwang Jihee, head of Naver Electronic Signature Certification Center, said, "After Yonsei University, we are preparing to open the student alumni verification service at three cyber universities within this year, and will cooperate to enable digital transformation using Naver Certificate at more university campuses in the future."
