Agreement Ceremony at Korea Airports Corporation Headquarters... Cooperation for Ecologically Sensitive Children's Education
Seoul Botanic Park Provides Facility Site and Management, Korea Airports Corporation Supports Construction and Operation Costs
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Botanic Park will create a play space within the botanical garden over the next three years in collaboration with Korea Airports Corporation.
On the 8th, Seoul City announced that Seoul Botanic Park and Korea Airports Corporation will sign a business agreement to foster future generations with rich ecological sensitivity and awareness of the importance of biodiversity. The signing ceremony will be held at the Korea Airports Corporation headquarters' large conference room "Sum" with the attendance of Han Jeong-hoon, Director of Seoul Botanic Park, and Lee Mi-ae, Head of Strategic Planning at Korea Airports Corporation.
This agreement is part of Korea Airports Corporation's social contribution projects, where both organizations, deeply empathizing with the climate change crisis, will cooperate to widely promote the necessity and importance of plant and environmental education.
Through this agreement, by 2024, Seoul Botanic Park will provide locations for creating new educational environments and operate programs, while Korea Airports Corporation will support the creation and program operation costs.
First, by June next year, a "barrier-free garden" will be created in front of the Children's Garden School where children with and without disabilities can play and practice together. The garden's pathways and paving materials will be improved to allow easy access for wheelchairs and strollers, establishing a practice space tailored to children's perspectives.
Support will also be provided for training children as plant interpreters. Seoul Botanic Park plans to recruit and operate a total of 30 children during this winter vacation, with 50% of the recruits prioritized from children living near the airport area.
Additionally, cooperation will continue for special events and educational programs such as Arbor Day and Children's Day to deliver educational messages related to plants and the environment. In particular, programs will be planned and operated focusing not only on plant education but also on raising awareness of the seriousness of carbon emissions and environmental destruction, encouraging recycling and resource conservation in daily life.
Over the next three years, Seoul Botanic Park plans to discuss annually with Korea Airports Corporation to promote the creation of new facilities and operation of programs suitable for the timing and space.
Han Jeong-hoon, Director of Seoul Botanic Park, said, "We are pleased and grateful to cooperate with Korea Airports Corporation in sharing the purpose and importance of children's plant and environmental education to nurture wise future citizens," adding, "We will continue to spread plant culture to more diverse generations and take the lead in realizing social integration values."
