[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] From December 9, holding publication commemorative events and legislative report meetings related to presidential election candidates will be prohibited.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan City Election Commission on the 7th, from the 9th, which is 90 days before the election day of the 20th presidential election, holding publication commemorative events related to candidates (including those intending to become candidates) and legislative activity report meetings of members of the National Assembly and local councilors will be prohibited. In addition, appearances in candidate advertisements and advertisements for books indicating the name of political parties or candidates will be restricted.
No one may hold a publication commemorative event for a book related to a candidate, and members of the National Assembly and local councilors may not report legislative activities through assemblies, reports, or any other means regardless of the title or reason.
However, legislative activity reports can be made by direct telephone calls using voice or sign language communication methods when it is not election day, and posting on internet homepages, bulletin boards, chat rooms, or sending via email or text messages is allowed at any time.
Advertisements in the name of political parties or candidates and candidate advertisement appearances are also restricted.
No one may advertise writings, performances, plays, movies, photographs, or other items indicating the name of a political party or candidate, and candidates may not appear in advertisements on broadcasts, newspapers, magazines, or others.
Furthermore, except for broadcasts and news or debate programs under the election law, appearances on broadcasts are restricted according to Article 21 (Restrictions on Candidate Appearances on Broadcasts) of the Special Provisions on Election Broadcast Deliberation.
Those who are restricted from candidacy, such as public officials intending to run in this presidential election, must resign by the 9th to be eligible to run. However, members of the National Assembly are exempt from this resignation requirement.
Community leaders such as Tong-ri-ban chiefs, members of residents' autonomy committees, and reserve army officers at the company commander level or higher must resign from their positions by the 9th to become election campaign managers, election liaison office heads, election staff, assistants to preliminary candidates or candidates, accounting managers, speechwriters, debaters, poll observers, or early voting observers.
In this case, members of residents' autonomy committees cannot return to their previous positions until the election day, and others cannot return within six months after the election day.
For various inquiries related to the election, you can call 1390 without an area code or receive guidance through the election law portal site.
A Gwangju City Election Commission official said, “Since the Public Official Election Act stipulates different restrictions and prohibitions depending on the period, political parties, candidates, and voters should be careful not to violate the law due to ignorance.”
