[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Electronic component manufacturer Dreamtech announced on the 7th that it has signed a business agreement with the US company Mixcom for the mass production of wireless frequency (RF) antenna modules, a core component of 5G millimeter wave technology.

Mixcom is a 5G communication technology specialist company developing 5G millimeter wave band wireless frequency and antenna-in-package (AiP) solutions. Since March, Dreamtech has partnered with Mixcom to jointly develop 5G systems.

Through this business agreement, the two companies will cooperate to mass-produce antenna modules essential for in-building radio units and indoor/outdoor repeaters, which are key equipment for seamless 5G usage both indoors and outdoors.

Mixcom will provide antenna module algorithm technology and know-how for the millimeter wave band and support Dreamtech’s mass production of 5G millimeter wave band wireless frequency antenna modules. Dreamtech will be responsible for the overall system design, mass production, and supply by adding its ICT capabilities and manufacturing expertise.

Since 2019, Dreamtech has proactively invested in 5G communication equipment facilities and research and development. In September, it signed a business agreement with 5G communication equipment specialist Solid for the development and mass production of 5G 28GHz band indoor radio units. Starting next year, it will begin supplying products to Japanese telecommunications operators and aims to expand in the global indoor radio unit market, which is expected to reach approximately $3.5 billion (about 4.13 trillion KRW) by 2025.

According to this agreement, Dreamtech plans to start full-scale mass production of antenna modules with Mixcom from 2022 and supply them to 5G communication equipment companies.

Kang Wonjun, Head of Dreamtech’s Digital Solutions Division, said, "As 5G communication equipment investments delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic resume worldwide, we have signed business agreements with domestic and international 5G communication equipment companies to respond to the 5G market, which is core to future advanced industries such as AI and the metaverse. We will make full preparations to target the global market and strive to secure competitiveness in 5G communication equipment."

Dreamtech is a comprehensive electronic component manufacturer developing and producing smartphone PBA modules, fingerprint sensor modules, and smart medical devices, and is recently expanding its business into healthcare and 5G sectors for diversification.
