Chungnam, 9 Villages in 6 Cities and Counties Selected for 'Fishing Village New Deal 300'

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Nine villages in six cities and counties of Chungnam have been selected for the ‘Fishing Village New Deal 300 Contest Project.’


According to Chungnam Province on the 7th, the ‘2022 Fishing Village New Deal 300 Contest Project’ led by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries includes Boryeong’s Yeolho Port, Nokdo Port, Chojeon Port, Woldo Port, Seosan’s Ganwoldo Port, Dangjin’s Maetdol Port, Seocheon’s Dasahang, Hongseong’s Eosahang, and Taean’s Hakampo Port as project sites.


These villages will carry out improvements such as passenger terminal enhancements, fishing port safety facility maintenance, creation of fishermen welfare spaces, expansion of tourism convenience facilities, establishment of living infrastructure, and development of marine ecological experience centers with a total project cost of 63.5 billion KRW (44.4 billion KRW in national funds) by 2024.


The province expects this to improve maritime transportation convenience between islands with poor traffic and the mainland, enhance fishing village accessibility and residential conditions. It also anticipates increased residents’ income and revitalization of the fishing village economy.


In Chungnam, 26 villages in six cities and counties including Taean and Boryeong have been selected for the Fishing Village New Deal 300 project and are currently carrying out related projects. The total budget allocated for these villages is 242 billion KRW.


Meanwhile, the Fishing Village New Deal 300 project is promoted to create future value through the development and modernization of underdeveloped fishing villages and ports and to improve the quality of life of fishing village residents.
