[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the 6th, Changwon City in Gyeongnam signed a business agreement with the Navy Jinhae Base Command for the 'Green New Deal Advanced Technology Demonstration Test Cooperation Project' to foster new industries in the defense, port, and renewable energy sectors.

This cooperation project aims to increase utilization by opening the Navy's idle resources (spaces, equipment, etc.) to private companies and research institutions, while the private sector reduces costs (time, capital, etc.) related to testing and certification, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local industry.

Until now, fostering new industries in defense, port logistics, hydrogen mobility, and renewable energy sectors required separate spaces for safety and technical security for demonstration tests, but suitable available sites were lacking.

Accordingly, the Jinhae Command plans to provide the unit's idle spaces as test fields for companies and research institutions in accordance with relevant laws, securing opportunities to prioritize the application of IoT, AI, metaverse, and renewable energy utilization technologies, and promoting the advancement of base management.

The agreement specifies detailed cooperation matters for the project and clarifies the roles of participating organizations. It also concretizes implementation matters regarding cooperation in utilizing shared resources necessary for the commercialization of companies and joint responses to resolve issues arising from the use of shared resources.

The city plans to prioritize pilot projects in the hydrogen mobility and power generation industries starting from the signing of the agreement.

By establishing a hydrogen charging station within the base, it will respond to the transition to military hydrogen mobility, and by installing hydrogen fuel cell power generation facilities, it aims to secure emergency power for essential equipment operation, achieving eco-friendly, smart, and advanced base management.

Additionally, through discovering additional pilot projects and expanding the civilian-military smart energy cooperation system, it seeks to enhance energy transition responsiveness and revitalize the local economy.

Attending the signing ceremony were Mayor Heo Seong-mu, Jinhae Command Commander Ryu Hyo-sang, Changwon Industry Promotion Agency Director Baek Jeong-han, Korea Automotive Research Institute Hydrogen Mobility Research Headquarters Director Koo Young-mo, and Tryzen CEO Lee Young-sil.

Mayor Heo said, "The city will do its best to cooperate in building a smart base that leads advanced naval culture," and added, "I hope today's agreement ceremony becomes a new win-win model of advanced technology, regional economic revitalization, and civilian-military cooperation."
