[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang County, submitted the next year's budget proposal to the council at the 2nd regular meeting of the 260th Geochang County Council on the 6th and revealed the direction of next year's county administration in his policy speech.
Mayor Gu In-mo stated, "Despite the difficult situation due to COVID-19 this year, we have successfully resolved the three major challenges of Geochang County and achieved remarkable results for a greater leap forward in Geochang under a stable administration supported wholeheartedly by all residents."
Key achievements include the smooth progress of large-scale projects preparing for Geochang's future, such as ▲the new construction of the detention center currently at 45% completion and scheduled for completion in October next year ▲the Dalbit Inland Railroad project between Gu and Gwangju ▲confirmation of the southern bypass road project ▲creation of the 2nd Changpo Garden ▲development of the advanced general industrial complex ▲restoration of the Ungokcheon ecological stream ▲creation of the Hwanggang Riverside Leisure and Cultural Park ▲and the 340 billion KRW scale Geochang-type New Deal project.
In particular, to increase the population, 13 policies including the LH rental housing project and scholarships and dormitory fee support for incoming and transferring students have been implemented, helping Geochang regain the 2nd place among county districts in the province after 7 years last year and firmly maintain that position to date.
As a result of these efforts, Geochang County has won awards for three consecutive years in joint evaluations of major county tasks, received the grand prize for excellent local government in implementing national goals in 2021, and was selected for 51 public contest projects worth 68.6 billion KRW, laying the foundation for next year's projects.
Regarding next year's county administration, ten operational directions were presented: ▲completion of the 7th elected term's pledged projects ▲expansion of future new growth engine industries ▲creation of a future education city environment ▲development of a cultural tourism city where nature breathes ▲establishment of road networks as the economic foundation ▲creation of prosperous rural areas centered on farmers ▲establishment of an ecological environment where nature and humans coexist through achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 ▲building a welfare system where everyone is happy ▲creation of a comfortable and safe city ▲and achieving the number one population rank among county districts in the province. All administrative power will be focused to complete the era of greater Geochang leap and citizen happiness.
First, among the 56 projects in 7 areas pledged by the 7th elected mayor, 46 projects have been completed, showing a 95% implementation rate, and the plan is to complete all projects during the remaining term.
Mayor Gu In-mo emphasized, "Through the challenges and achievements of the 7th elected term, Geochang County, located at the northwestern edge of Gyeongnam, plays a central role in culture, education, and administration in Gyeongnam. The county administration has never been as stable as it is now, and it is time to prepare for a new leap based on this foundation."
He added, "I will unite the strength of about 800 public officials to vigorously move forward so that next year's county administration can be carried out dynamically and continuously without any setbacks."
Meanwhile, Geochang County has prepared a 2022 budget proposal of 701.9 billion KRW, an increase of 7.9% or 51.5 billion KRW from this year, opening the era of the county's main budget exceeding 700 billion KRW for the first time.
