[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The prosecution, investigating allegations of preferential treatment and lobbying in the Daejang-dong development project in Seongnam City, is currently summoning and questioning Seongnam City officials who were in charge of the practical work at the time. They are verifying whether higher-ups were involved, and there is a possibility of additional summonses of other related individuals.
According to the legal community on the 6th, the dedicated investigation team of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (led by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Kim Tae-hoon) summoned former Seongnam City Urban Regeneration Division Chief Kim for questioning in the afternoon to confirm the decision-making process of the Daejang-dong project.
Former Division Chief Kim is known to have worked as the Urban Regeneration Division Chief of the Seongnam City Urban Development Project Group for about 1 year and 10 months starting around April 2015, overseeing practical tasks such as establishing, modifying, and approving implementation plans for the Daejang-dong urban development zone.
Accordingly, the investigation team reportedly questioned former Division Chief Kim about Seongnam City's involvement, which held management and supervisory authority over the Daejang-dong project, as well as the reporting and approval lines and the background of the allocation design.
Meanwhile, based on the investigation conducted on the 3rd with Mr. Lee, who served as the head of the Development Project Team 1 at Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, and Mr. Moon, who was the Budget and Legal Affairs Division Chief managing Seongnam Urban Development Corporation at Seongnam City, the investigation team examined whether higher-ups in Seongnam City were involved in the drafting process of the consortium guidelines and the business agreement.
