[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Shinhan Bank announced on the 6th that starting with Buseok Middle School located in Seosan City, Chungcheongnam-do, it will visit local schools until the end of this year to perform the financial education musical for middle and high school students titled "Wae.Gye.In. (Even if lonely and difficult, if you keep running, you will become human)."
The musical WaeGyeIn tells the story of teenage male and female protagonists who get involved in illegal financial transactions to earn money but gain enlightenment through the teachings of an alien they encounter by chance. It addresses recent financial fraud and gambling issues targeting youth and emphasizes the importance of proper financial use.
The "Shinhan Shining Star" project, which produced this musical, was planned by Shinhan Bank in 2019 to provide out-of-school youth interested in cultural and artistic fields such as musicals with career exploration opportunities and to instill self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment through musical production and participation.
Based on a new scenario each year, the project began with face-to-face performances at middle and high schools in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas in 2019. Last year, due to COVID-19, it shifted to non-face-to-face online performances. From this year, the scope has expanded nationwide to include not only middle and high schools but also local theaters, conducting both face-to-face and non-face-to-face performances targeting underprivileged groups with limited cultural experience.
This year, about 40 youths participating in the project completed approximately four months of musical acting, vocal, and dance training since August, completing the "WaeGyeIn" musical. Since its inception in 2019, a total of 90 youths have completed the training.
A Shinhan Bank official said, "We hope that out-of-school youths participating in the Shinhan Shining Star project will have the opportunity to challenge new fields and achieve their dreams this year as well," adding, "We will continue to spread warmth through caring finance to all parts of society that need attention and opportunities."
