Korean National Police University Holds Academic Seminar on 'Legal and Technical Response Directions in the Autonomous Driving Era'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the 6th, the Korean National Police University held an academic seminar titled "Legal and Technical Response Directions in the Era of Autonomous Driving" in the seminar room on the first floor of the Kim Gu Library at the Police University in Asan-si, Chungnam.

This seminar was organized to explore the police's response directions, who are responsible for the operation and safety of road traffic, in preparation for the changes in the future traffic environment brought about by autonomous driving, and to share research outcomes.

The seminar featured presentations and discussions on topics such as ▲Development of safety driving ability guidelines for cooperative autonomous driving ▲Development of IoT-based traffic safety facility information provision and operation management technology ▲Directions for revising the Road Traffic Act in preparation for autonomous driving.

Lee Jumin, Chairman of the Korea Road Traffic Authority, said, "The Korea Road Traffic Authority is promoting proactive research and development in key areas of the Road Traffic Act to prepare for the future transportation era," adding, "I hope this seminar will be a valuable opportunity to explore legal and technical response directions in preparation for the commercialization era of autonomous driving and to lead the future transportation ecosystem."

Lee Cheol-gu, President of the Korean National Police University, emphasized, "Currently, traffic-related laws and traffic safety facilities, including traffic systems, assume human driving, so improvements are needed to align with the autonomous driving era," and added, "I hope this will be a valuable time to think ahead about the police's role and legal and technical response directions in the upcoming autonomous driving era."
