[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] As the spread of COVID-19 shows no signs of slowing down, confirmed cases continued to emerge across the country even on the holiday of the 5th.


According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, a total of 2,311 people tested positive for COVID-19 across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.


This number is 465 fewer than the 2,776 cases recorded at the same time the previous day. However, it is 634 more than the 1,677 cases recorded at the same time a week earlier on the 28th of last month. Since the count continues until midnight, the number of new confirmed cases announced at 0:00 on the 6th is expected to be higher.


By region, 1,191 cases (51.5%) were reported in the metropolitan area, and 1,120 cases (48.5%) occurred in non-metropolitan areas.


By city and province, the numbers are as follows: Seoul 602, Gyeonggi 315, Incheon 274, Busan 191, Gyeongbuk 182, Daegu 137, Chungnam 121, Gyeongnam 109, Gangwon 101, Daejeon 57, Chungbuk 54, Jeonbuk 48, Jeju 38, Gwangju 35, Jeonnam 34, Sejong 7, and Ulsan 6. Confirmed cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces.


The number of new confirmed cases over the past week (11.29?12.5) were daily as follows: 3,308 → 332 → 5,1225,2654,9445,3525,128, averaging 4,593 cases per day. The average daily number of locally transmitted cases is 4,565.
