[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 5th that on the 3rd, it renovated two urban parks, Duam 2nd Neighborhood Park and Yulgok Children's Park in Sansu-dong, and held a commemorative ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by about 90 people, including Dong-gu Mayor Im Taek, city and district council members, and residents. The event included a progress report, commemorative tree planting, and a tour of the parks together.
Duam 2nd Neighborhood Park and Yulgok Children's Park in Sansu-dong have been used as resting spaces for students of Yulgok Elementary School and residents of nearby apartments, but due to aging facilities, convenience and safety for residents declined, leading to continuous demands for facility improvements.
Dong-gu invested 500 million won secured through Gwangju Metropolitan City's public project last year to renovate two urban parks, including the neighborhood park and children's park, replacing old facilities and expanding and creating experiential play spaces for children.
First, Duam 2nd Neighborhood Park in Sansu-dong was newly maintained and improved by replacing old palm mats, installing seven new security lights, and planting about 4,000 flowering trees including Japanese snowbell trees.
Yulgok Children's Park was completely renovated to create various creative activity spaces by installing three types of experiential play facilities such as a rotating net. In particular, convenience facilities and resting spaces linked to fitness equipment for middle-aged and elderly residents were created so that residents of all ages and genders can use the park safely and conveniently.
A Dong-gu official said, "We are pleased to be able to present the renovated Sansu-dong urban parks, one of the long-standing wishes of residents, as safe resting spaces again," adding, "We will continue to expand green spaces and resting areas in the city to improve residents' health and quality of life."
