[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Professor Lee Soo-jung, a criminal psychology professor at Kyonggi University who was recruited as co-chair of the People Power Party's election campaign committee, claimed that the reason her keynote speech at a seminar hosted by the Korean National Police University was canceled was due to notification from the Police University side.

Earlier, on the 2nd, Professor Lee was scheduled to give a keynote speech at an academic seminar at the Police University on the topic of "Interdisciplinary Convergent Response Directions to Stalking Crimes," but it was reported that she notified her absence citing personal reasons just before the event.

Regarding this, Professor Lee said in an interview with JoongAng Ilbo and other media on the 3rd, "After I was appointed as co-chair of the People Power Party's election campaign committee on the 29th of last month, suddenly a person from the Police University called me, saying it was a 'personal call,' and told me, 'You were supposed to attend the seminar, but please do not come. It is too burdensome,'" adding, "So I did not attend the seminar, but then reports came out saying I unilaterally withdrew citing personal reasons just before the event."

She also mentioned that government and local government events scheduled right after she joined the People Power Party's campaign committee have been canceled.

She said, "Not only the Police University, but from the moment I joined the People Power Party's campaign committee, all state institutions have been preventing me from attending (events)." Previously, she had lecture schedules with the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Labor, and Gimhae City, but after joining the People Power Party's campaign committee, those institutions reportedly requested her not to attend, saying "It would be awkward if you come," according to her explanation.

Meanwhile, the People Power Party held a supreme council meeting at the National Assembly on the 29th of last month and decided on the campaign committee appointments. Along with Professor Lee, they recruited Representative Cho Kyung-tae from the Hong Jun-pyo faction as co-chairs of the campaign committee.
