Gwangyang Steelworks Employees and Their Families Win 11 Out of 18 Awards
Kim Jung-yoon, Manager at Gwangyang Steelworks, Named 'Volunteer of the Year'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Employees and their families of POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Ji-yong) were recognized for actively practicing neighborly love based on the 'Corporate Citizenship Management Philosophy' and received numerous commendations at the '2021 Gwangyang Volunteer Day Commemoration Event.'
The event was attended by Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks; Kim Tae-gyun, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly member; Kim Kyung-ho, Deputy Mayor of Gwangyang City; Jin Su-hwa, Chairman of Gwangyang City Council; Kim Joo-an, President of Gwangyang Volunteer Organizations Council; Lee Baek-gu, Chairman of Gwangyang Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Lee Kwang-yong, Chairman of Gwangyang Steelworks Partner Companies Association; and Kim Yoo-young, Chairman of Gwangyang Steelworks Win-Win Council, who extended congratulations and encouragement to the volunteers and awardees of Gwangyang City.
To commemorate Volunteer Day on December 5, the city has held the Gwangyang Volunteer Day event annually since 2006. This year, considering the holiday on the 5th, the event was moved forward to the 3rd and consisted of a ceremony along with talent-sharing performances and photo exhibitions, creating a space for sharing and harmony that encourages volunteering.
Marking its 16th anniversary, the Gwangyang Volunteer Day event awarded 14 individuals and 4 groups or companies with Governor’s Commendations and Mayor’s Commendations for their dedication to community development.
Employees and their families, including the Gwangyang Steelworks Talent Volunteer Group, attracted attention by receiving 11 out of the total 18 awards presented that day.
One employee and one employee family member who have been actively promoting a culture of sharing in the community through groups such as the Gwangyang Steelworks Thunder Stepping Stone Volunteer Group, Love Sharing Volunteer Group, and Jungma 112 Bicycle Volunteer Group received Governor’s Commendations.
Additionally, employees and their families from various internal and external volunteer groups such as the Friends Talent Volunteer Group and Evergreen Mural Talent Volunteer Group received Mayor’s Commendations for their diverse contributions.
Notably, Section Chief Kim Jeong-yoon of Gwangyang Steelworks was selected as Gwangyang City’s ‘Volunteer of the Year,’ adding special significance. Since 2011, Section Chief Kim has contributed over 7,130 hours volunteering in wallpapering, organizing, and other talent volunteer groups, embodying the value of coexisting with the community as a ‘corporate citizen growing together.’
On the day, Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “I express my gratitude to all of you who personally practice volunteer activities and help build Gwangyang as a city of sharing,” and added, “Gwangyang Steelworks will continue to strive to expand the culture of sharing in the region through joint volunteer activities with Gwangyang City and local organizations.”
Meanwhile, since 2014, Gwangyang Steelworks has operated 43 talent volunteer groups that incorporate employees’ skills, experiences, and hobbies into volunteering. In addition, through various volunteer activities and sharing, it actively practices the ‘Corporate Citizenship’ management philosophy of coexisting and growing together with the community.
