[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Namsa Yedam Village in Sancheong-gun, designated as Korea's Most Beautiful Village No. 1, has won the '21st Green Gyeongnam Award.'

According to Sancheong-gun on the 3rd, this 'Green Gyeongnam Award' was given in three categories: creation of green spaces, management, and voluntary participation.

Namsa Village in Namsa Yedam Village was selected in the management category. The prize money will be used to support related projects in 2023.

Sancheong Namsa Yedam Village was designated as the No. 1 village by the Korea Most Beautiful Villages Federation in 2011.

It boasts beautiful scenery including centuries-old traditional houses surrounded by old ivy vines and earthen walls, plum trees that have spent time alongside the old houses, and couple pagoda trees confirming their love in the narrow alleys.

It is a traditional village where you can find an antique old wall stretching 3.2 km. This wall is designated as a National Registered Cultural Property (No. 281). 'Yedam' means old wall.

Inside the village, there are about 40 traditional hanok houses built between the 18th and 20th centuries. There is the Gisan Gugak Hall commemorating Master Gisan Park Heon-bong, a great teacher in the Korean traditional music world, and Sancheong Isajae (Gyeongnam Cultural Property No. 328), where Admiral Yi Sun-sin stayed during his white-clad military service.

Park Tae-jin, head of Namsa Village, said, "At the Ha family old house, the Wonjeongmae, one of the three Sancheong meditations, blooms every spring on an old tree. Besides Wonjeongmae, plum trees are located in the front yards of several old houses, attracting many visitors during the plum blossom season."
