Jeongeup-si to Recruit 5,235 Participants for Senior Job Program Next Year

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is accelerating efforts to promote social participation and living stability for local seniors as it enters a super-aged society in the era of 100-year lifespans.

According to the city on the 3rd, as of last October, the elderly population (aged 65 and over) in Jeongeup was 30,526, accounting for 29% of the total population of about 106,800.

Accordingly, the city is promoting senior job projects to help seniors enjoy a happy old age by engaging in various social activities without economic difficulties.

As a pledge project of the 7th local government administration, the city has expanded the job projects annually, increasing the number of participants from 2,348 to 5,073 over the past four years, an increase of 2,725 people, and the budget has also increased by about 11.6 billion KRW.

Next year, the city plans to invest 19.857 billion KRW, an increase of 2.12 billion KRW from this year, to provide jobs for 5,235 seniors.

To this end, the city is recruiting participants for the senior job project until the 17th.

Senior jobs are divided into public interest activity type, which involves volunteer work for public benefit; social service type, which provides services utilizing seniors' activity capabilities; and market-type business groups operating small stores and specialized business units.

The public interest type is available to basic pension recipients aged 65 or older, while the social service and market types are available to seniors aged 65 or older who have working ability.

Those wishing to participate can apply and register at the relevant eup/myeon/dong office or one of the five designated executing institutions with a resident registration certificate, ID card, and documents verifying COVID-19 vaccination.

The final selection results will be notified individually by the application institution, and the project will start in January next year.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, "I hope this will be of some help to seniors experiencing economic difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," and added, "Next year, we will do our best to discover many quality jobs so that seniors can utilize their social experience and expertise."

Meanwhile, to promote next year's job projects, the city designated five institutions as executing agencies: the Korea Senior Citizens Association, Jeongeup Senior Club, Jeongeup Senior Welfare Center, Jeongeup Northern Senior Welfare Center, and Seomjingang Dam Welfare Center.
