[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Ha Byeong-pil, Acting Governor of Gyeongnam Province, urged on the 2nd, "Make thorough preparations to support vulnerable groups and prevent safety accidents as the full winter season approaches."
At the expanded executive meeting that day, Acting Governor Ha said, "The most suffering and struggling people during winter are the vulnerable groups," adding, "Thoroughly inspect plans and implementation measures for support for these groups, as well as for disaster and winter safety accident prevention such as heavy snow, cold waves, and wildfires during this period."
Mentioning specific examples of support for vulnerable groups such as basic living security, heating cost support, and meals for children at risk of food insecurity, Acting Governor Ha requested, "Please pay close attention to ensure that necessary support is provided in a timely manner, especially by appropriately judging between face-to-face and non-face-to-face formats in relation to the COVID-19 situation, so that no support is neglected."
Regarding the derailment accident of the Tongyeong Yokji Island monorail that occurred last weekend, he said, "An accident that should never have happened occurred," and instructed, "Conduct an emergency safety inspection of monorail, cable car, zipline, and other facilities in the province to take measures to prevent recurrence of accidents."
Concerning the confirmation of the first domestic Omicron variant case on the 1st, he emphasized, "Manage to ensure thorough implementation of the government's policies such as the four-week special quarantine measures, and actively encourage and promote additional vaccinations for adults and vaccinations for those under 18," urging continued caution and strict quarantine.
Acting Governor Ha cautiously anticipated that next year's government budget would exceed 7 trillion won in national funds for the first time, adding, "Do not loosen your vigilance until the final moment when it passes the plenary session, make efforts on necessary parts, and once the results come out, explain them in detail to the residents of the province."
In addition, he instructed strict public service discipline at the end of the year and New Year, strict neutrality during the election period, and active and friendly public relations regarding the province's achievements and processes.
