Jeonnam Fire Department, Full Effort to Secure 'Citizen Safety' by Identifying and Improving Hazardous Areas in the Province

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) is making every effort to secure the safety of residents by identifying and improving hazardous areas within the province.

Jeonnam Fire announced on the 2nd that it selected 127 locations within the province where safety accidents such as mountain and water-related accidents frequently occur and took proactive measures to eliminate risk factors.

In April, a regional council was formed with related organizations such as local fire stations, local governments, and the Rural Development Administration to promote the project of identifying and improving high-risk accident areas, completing improvement measures at all 127 sites.

This project was carried out by analyzing casualty occurrences, cumulative rescue and emergency dispatch areas, and complaint areas using the rescue and emergency activity information system over the past five years (2016?2020).

Among the improvements, traffic accident prevention measures such as on roads were the most frequent with 53 cases, followed by 47 cases of water-related accident prevention, 24 mountain accident prevention cases, 1 collapse accident prevention case, and 2 other accident prevention cases.

In the area around Baegunsan Dullegil in Gwangyang-si, Jeonnam, locations with a high risk of falling accidents were identified and safety railings and other facilities were installed to improve the hiking trail's safety.

In Soho-dong coastal area of Yeosu-si, known as a frequent site of suicide attempts and falling accidents, safety signs and other installations were completed to help reduce the accident rate.

Jeonnam Fire plans to maintain a cooperative system with related organizations to not only prevent safety accidents in the province through this project but also minimize accident occurrence rates through prompt response.

Chief Ma Jaeyoon said, “We expect that the accident information secured through firefighting activities, big data analysis, and joint response with related organizations will greatly contribute to reducing accident risks,” adding, “We will continue to identify and improve hazardous areas in the province and do our best to ensure the safety of residents.”
