[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] The Mokpo City Bus Operation Deliberation Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Deliberation Committee) announced on the 2nd that it held its 13th meeting on the 1st and approved the final recommendation regarding the operation of Mokpo city buses.
At this meeting, the Deliberation Committee finalized and approved the recommendation, which consolidated the results of external accounting audits, transportation cost verification, public surveys, and citizen debates.
The recommendation reflects measures to optimize city bus transportation costs, strengthen management and supervision of bus companies, and opinions from the citizen participation group, and is drafted in the form of policy suggestions to be submitted to Mokpo City.
The recommendation is scheduled to be disclosed through a press briefing on the 9th.
The Deliberation Committee was established and has been operating since May under the "Mokpo City Deliberation Committee Establishment and Operation Ordinance," following the city bus companies' application for suspension in April due to financial difficulties, the city's rejection of the application citing the public interest purpose of guaranteeing mobility rights for transportation-vulnerable groups and stable supply of public transportation, and the judgment that this could significantly impact citizens' lives.
Since then, the committee has conducted meetings, on-site inspections of bus companies, external audits, the "Efficient City Bus Operation and Route System Verification (Deliberation) Service," formation of a citizen participation group, and first and second debates to prepare the final recommendation.
In addition, the committee has operated a dedicated website related to the deliberation and disclosed the process through media reports and briefings.
