[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] A fire broke out in an 11th-floor apartment unit in Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, but quick action by the management office prevented major damage.

According to the Bukbu Fire Station (Chief Kim Hee-chul) in Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 2nd, a fire occurred inside an 11th-floor apartment unit in Buk-gu around 5 p.m. on the 1st.

The fire started on the living room sofa inside the unit, destroying furniture and household items, but no casualties were reported.

The fire official explained that the prompt report by the apartment official who had received training as a "Multi-family Housing Fire Safety Leader" from the Bukbu Fire Station, the guidance for evacuation, and the initial response using the indoor fire hydrant helped prevent greater damage.

Multi-family housing is structured with multiple units connected in a row, so if a fire breaks out in one unit, it can easily spread to nearby units, causing numerous casualties and property damage.

Accordingly, since 2019 until this year, fire safety education on initial fire response and evacuation procedures has been conducted for a total of 1,101 management office personnel across 29 targets.

Kim Hee-chul, chief of the Bukbu Fire Station, stated, "We will strive to actively cultivate multi-family housing fire safety leaders and improve proactive initial response capabilities through preventive education."
