Yeosu City, "No More Water Pollution"

Guidelines for Design and Construction of Individual Sewage Treatment Facilities Established

Yeosu City, "No More Water Pollution"

[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek simkt7@asiae.co.kr] Jeollanam-do Yeosu City has recently attracted attention by establishing the first design and construction guidelines for private sewage treatment facilities in Jeollanam-do.

Yeosu City has prepared detailed design and construction standards suitable for wastewater treatment of private sewage treatment facilities and is actively working to prevent water quality pollution by strengthening overall system management, including conducting preliminary inspections before completion.

Private sewage treatment facilities are purification tanks and wastewater treatment facilities that must be installed in buildings and other facilities that cannot treat sewage through public sewage treatment facilities. The city established the guidelines to prevent complaints from residents caused by defective products and poor construction.

The guidelines include improving efficiency through verifying lawful construction by private sewage treatment facility designers and constructors, introducing a real-name system, expanding concrete structure construction, and preparing detailed construction standards. They also strengthen construction and supervision by conducting preliminary inspections before completion and preventing the use of temporary electricity.

The city plans to prevent unqualified constructors from constructing or lending registration certificates during preliminary inspections that check product suitability before installing private sewage treatment facilities, and to manage and supervise lawful construction by designers and constructors to prevent water quality pollution in advance.

In addition, if unqualified constructors are caught installing private sewage treatment facilities, the city plans to take administrative and judicial actions against the building owners and actual constructors.

A city official stated, “With the establishment of these construction guidelines, we will prevent various complaints caused by the distribution of defective private sewage treatment facilities and poor construction, and do our best to preserve clean water quality by preventing situations that could deteriorate the water quality of public water bodies such as rivers.”

The “Private Sewage Treatment Facility Design and Construction Guidelines” of Yeosu City have been posted on the city’s website announcement board and are scheduled to be implemented from January 1 of next year, after the 30th.
