Yeongsangang Regional Environmental Office Operates Illegal Burning Report Situation Room

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office (Director Ryu Yeon-gi, hereinafter referred to as the Environmental Office) announced that it will operate an 'Illegal Burning Report' situation room from December this year to March next year, the period of the 3rd Seasonal Fine Dust Management System, to prevent illegal burning of agricultural residues in rural areas.

The Illegal Burning Report situation room will also be operated in 32 cities, counties, and districts within Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeju.

Illegal burning releases fine dust without filtration in daily surroundings such as rural areas, construction sites, and habitual illegal burning areas during periods of high fine dust concentration, making prior prevention important.

An official from the Environmental Office requested cooperation to properly collect and process agricultural waste such as waste vinyl and pesticide bags at village joint collection points.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Office plans to continuously monitor areas at risk of illegal burning reported by local governments and conduct joint inspections with relevant local government departments.

In particular, illegal burning surveillance activities will utilize drones owned by the Environmental Office to monitor illegal burning even from a distance.

Additionally, through the 'Yeongsan River and Seomjin River Environmental Guardians (38 members)' operated by the Environmental Office, surveillance activities against illegal burning on river embankments and other areas will be conducted across 37 sections of the Yeongsan and Seomjin River basins. Together with about 100 members of the 'Fine Dust Private Inspection Team' operated by local governments, illegal burning of waste around workplaces will also be monitored.

Ryu Yeon-gi, Director of the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office, said, “Illegal burning in rural areas or on roads causes significant harm to local residents,” and added, “We will strive to eradicate illegal burning during the fine dust seasonal management period.”
