Mokpo National University Department of Electronic Commerce Wins Encouragement Award at U-Commerce Competition Mokpo National University received the Encouragement Award at the 2nd U-Commerce Competition hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small and Medium Business Corporation. ⓒ Asia Economy

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) received the Encouragement Award at the ‘2nd U-Commerce Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small and Medium Business Corporation, held metaverse-style at Seoul Garden Hotel on the 30th of last month.


According to Mokpo National University on the 2nd, the U-Commerce Competition held that day involved seven universities nationwide recommending two teams each after their own preliminary competitions. After a preliminary screening, eight teams advanced to the finals, where they presented online export activity cases and shared their achievements.


Based on a combination of public online voting and evaluations by expert judges, the Mokpo National University ‘Well (Team Leader Baek Ji-hyun ? Department of English Language and Literature)’ team, which achieved export results worth approximately 7.7 million KRW by exporting sweet potatoes and dried sweet potatoes from Toggle Toggle located in Muan through Qoo10, received the Encouragement Award.


The e-commerce specialized university designation and operation project, supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small and Medium Business Corporation, is a program that trains online export professionals. Seven universities including Mokpo National University, Korea University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies have been designated and are training a total of 571 professionals over two years.


Lee Seok-in, Dean of the College of Business Administration at Mokpo National University, who attended the U-Commerce Competition, encouraged the participating students and proposed to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups that this project be operated as a continuous program.


The Department of Electronic Commerce at Mokpo National University has participated for two consecutive years (2020?2021) in the operation of the e-commerce specialized university, as well as in Jeollanam-do’s global seller training project, the integrated online and offline export support project for the Chinese market, and the digital marketer training project of Gwangju-Jeonnam KOTRA.


Professor Lee Seok-in, head of the e-commerce specialized university and Dean of the College of Business Administration, expressed his ambition, stating, “Next year, we will expand participation to students not only in the College of Business Administration but also in the College of Humanities, and select online sales practice products mainly from local companies to simultaneously expand scope and strengthen substance.”
