GS Retail Introduces Facial Recognition Payment System 'Shinhan Face Pay'

GS Retail signed a business agreement with Shinhan Card on the 2nd to operate and establish the environment for the 'Face Pay' payment service.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] GS Retail announced on the 2nd that it has signed a business agreement with Shinhan Card to operate and establish the environment for the 'Face Pay' payment service.

The two companies will jointly promote the business focusing on ▲development and system construction of Shinhan Face Pay service ▲registration and payment of Shinhan Face Pay within the GS Retail platform ▲marketing activities to activate Shinhan Face Pay ▲linkage of Shinhan Face Pay with GS&Point automatic accumulation function.

Shinhan Face Pay is a service that allows payment through facial recognition instead of a card or mobile phone. Customers can verify their identity and link their Shinhan Card with facial information at kiosks where facial recognition registration is possible, and by entering a password, they can purchase products using only facial recognition at stores supporting Shinhan Face Pay.

GS Retail plans to pilot install facial recognition kiosks for Shinhan Face Pay and operate the payment service at two convenience stores (GS25 Seoul World Cup Plaza Branch and Dongducheon Songnae Branch) and one supermarket (GS The Fresh Gwanak Branch) by the end of this month.

A GS Retail official said, "By signing this business agreement with Shinhan Card, we aim to build new digital innovation at offline stores such as GS25 and GS The Fresh. Customers will be able to experience various services and enjoy more convenient and simple services in their daily lives through the GS Retail platform."
