[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] Miryang City in Gyeongnam is transforming into a smart city.
On the 1st, Miryang City held a completion report meeting for the Smart City Integrated Platform Construction Project and a kickoff report meeting for the Smart City Solution Expansion Project.
First, Miryang City invested 1.2 billion KRW to launch 23 smart services centered on the urban safety network, including overdue vehicle detection and electric fire detection in traditional markets.
The overdue vehicle detection service uses intelligent CCTVs located throughout Miryang city to automatically notify the city tax department when a vehicle owner has unpaid taxes.
The electric fire detection service targets the Arirang Traditional Market in Naeildong.
Sensors automatically detect abnormal currents or voltages occurring in stores within the market to prevent fires caused by short circuits or other electrical faults.
The CCTV service that detects license plates of vehicles entering Miryang’s gateway roads and automatically identifies the vehicle registration area has also started operation.
This service helps identify which city residents frequently visit Miryang, aiding in tourism policy development and other planning.
Miryang City will start operating smart bus stops and smart crosswalk services early next year.
With an investment of 1.8 billion KRW, seven bus stops and seven crosswalks will be upgraded to smart facilities.
The smart bus stops protect residents from heatwaves, cold waves, and fine dust, while providing wireless phone charging and public Wi-Fi.
The smart crosswalks use sensors to warn vehicles approaching the crosswalk without reducing speed, thereby protecting pedestrians.
Mayor Park Il-ho of Miryang said, "Once the smart city solution infrastructure is completed, it will contribute to enhancing residents’ experience of traffic safety and other smart city benefits," adding, "We will take a step forward as a smart city and provide various services for the safety and happiness of our citizens."
