Progressive Party: "Yoon's Abolition of the 52-Hour Workweek Is an Anti-Labor and Unconstitutional Remark"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Progressive Party harshly criticized Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, for his remarks on abolishing the 52-hour workweek, stating, "Yoon, who blatantly makes anti-labor and anti-constitutional claims, is unqualified as a presidential candidate."

On the 1st, the election headquarters of Progressive Party presidential candidate Kim Jae-yeon issued a statement saying, "Yoon, who repeatedly made anti-labor remarks such as '120-hour workweeks,' 'manual labor is something only Africans do,' and 'the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions is vested interests and a future plundering force,' has once again made a labor-hating remark," expressing this view.

The Progressive Party election headquarters said in the statement, "Abolishing the 52-hour workweek is essentially a call to return to the anti-labor society of the 1970s and is a disgraceful remark insulting 20 million wage workers."

They continued regarding the 52-hour workweek, "It does not even apply to workplaces with fewer than five employees, and due to various special working hour exceptions, up to 64 hours per week is allowed, with workers being brutally overworked in reality," adding, "At a time when we should be fully implementing the 52-hour workweek and further discussing reducing working hours to a four-day workweek, Yoon’s anachronistic and outrageous remarks make him unqualified as a presidential candidate."
