Coach Kim Taeyoung Awarded, Gunmin Day Ceremony Canceled Due to COVID-19 Spread
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced that on December 1st, it held the 2021 Citizen Award Ceremony at the County Office Space Hall.
Goheung-gun originally planned to present the Citizen Award at the 47th Citizen's Day ceremony on November 1st, but due to the spread of COVID-19 in the region, the ceremony was canceled. Instead, the award was presented to the recipient, Cheonan City Football Club coach Kim Tae-young, who was invited to the regular staff meeting event on December 1st.
Kim Tae-young, a native of Doyang-eup, played in 250 matches for the professional football team Jeonnam Dragons for over 10 years starting in 1995. From 1993 to 2004, he was active as a national team player in the Olympics and World Cup, notably as a key figure in Korea's historic 4th place finish in the 2002 World Cup, elevating the status of Korean football.
Through 25 years as a football player and 16 years as a coach, he demonstrated the diligent and strong spirit of Goheung people and was recognized for his contributions to the development and prestige of Goheung-gun sports.
A county official stated, “Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel the Citizen's Day commemorative event and only hold the Citizen Award ceremony. We will prepare next year's Citizen's Day event as a harmonious festival where all citizens unite to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.”
