Jeonju City, Establishment of Garden Culture Center

By June next year, 1.8 billion won will be spent to build a two-story building in Junghwasan-dong

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 1st that it will create the ‘Jeonju Garden Culture Center’ by expanding the small library building within Jungsan Park in Junghwasan-dong with a total project cost of 1.8 billion KRW by June next year.

Jeonju City has completed procedures such as the basic and detailed design services for the Jeonju Garden Culture Center, public opinion collection, and review by the Urban Park Committee, and plans to start construction within this month.

The Jeonju Garden Culture Center, to be built as a two-story building with a total floor area of 499㎡, aims to meet the increased demand from citizens for garden-related infrastructure and information due to the increased time spent at home during COVID-19. It will be equipped with △an education hall △a greenhouse garden △a garden library △a garden accessory sales area △and a community shared space.

In particular, the education hall and greenhouse garden in the Garden Culture Center will be used as places for theoretical and practical education on garden management, and the garden library will serve as a specialized library stocked with garden-related books.

Additionally, the garden accessory sales area will be a place where various garden-related materials and accessories can be sold, and the community shared space will be designed to serve as a local community communication area as well as a venue for presentations and exhibitions.

The operation of the Garden Culture Center will be directly managed by the city, with the Garden Culture Industry Team of the Ten Million Trees Garden City Division moving into the center to also function as an on-site city hall.

Jeonju City plans to utilize the Jeonju Garden Culture Center as a hub facility that will lead the spread and popularization of garden culture by providing citizens with various educational and communication spaces related to gardens once it is established.
