[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Urbanbase Inc., a spatial data platform company, announced on the 1st that it won the grand prize, the 'Comprehensive Grand Prix,' at the 'ResorTech Expo Award 2021' held locally in Okinawa, Japan. This recognition reflects the high marketability and growth potential of Urbanbase's patented technology that automatically models 2D drawings into 3D in just a few seconds.

The ResorTech Expo Award is an annual award given to outstanding IT companies at the 'ResorTech Expo.' The term ResorTech combines Resort and Technology, initiated with the aim of innovating the tourism industry of Okinawa, Japan's representative resort destination, through technology. Currently, it has expanded its scope to all industries in Okinawa, including construction, real estate, and interior design, discovering and showcasing companies that possess technologies capable of enhancing productivity and added value.

A total of 61 companies participated in the ResorTech Expo Award 2021, including Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), SoftBank, Salesforce, TOYOTA connected, Fujitsu, and Nippon Electric Company (NEC). Only two companies, including Urbanbase, were honored with awards. Urbanbase received the Comprehensive Grand Prix, awarded to the company with the most outstanding technology, while NTT won the Innovation Grand Prix.

The Expo organizers stated that Urbanbase's patented and core technology of 3D automatic modeling "not only has a significant impact on the architecture, interior, and real estate industries but also enables the platformization of all data related to 3D spaces," adding, "The Urbanbase platform is expected to become an important milestone in building virtual worlds such as the metaverse and digital twins, which have recently attracted global attention."

Jinwoo Ha, CEO of Urbanbase, said, "Following the contract with Japan's largest furniture company Nitori, Urbanbase's technological capabilities have once again been recognized in Japan," and added, "With the acquisition of Japanese patents, partnerships with symbolic companies in Japan, and this grand prize award, we are steadily achieving results in Japan as a K-startup, and we are preparing with excitement for the launch of our B2C service in Japan next year."

Meanwhile, Urbanbase, which officially began targeting the Japanese market by establishing a Japanese corporation in August 2019, has signed a contract with Japan's number one furniture company 'Nitori' and provides 3D interior services as a cloud-based subscription service (SaaS). While steadily increasing its partners, it is preparing to launch the Japanese version of Urbanbase's B2C service next year.
