BIM Awards 2021, Grand Prize for "Smart Construction, Hyundai Construction's Bespoke Strategy"
Smart Construction Challenge 2021, Top Innovation Award for "Smart Construction, Advanced Patrol Robots and Work Robot Technology"
Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on the 1st that it received the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award in both the general category of Korea's largest BIM competition, the ‘BIM Award 2021,’ and the robotics category of the construction technology contest ‘Smart Construction Challenge 2021.’
The ‘BIM Award’ is a ceremony established in 2009 to encourage the proper use and dissemination of BIM technology, jointly hosted by the Building Smart Association and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology. Hyundai Engineering & Construction won the grand prize (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award) for the ‘Smart Construction, Hyundai Engineering & Construction BESPOKE Strategy’ applied at the National Information Resources Service Daegu Center site.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction’s ‘Smart Construction, Hyundai Engineering & Construction BESPOKE Strategy’ tailored BIM and smart construction technologies to the work environment in response to the paradigm shift in the construction industry brought by the 4th Industrial Revolution. The main features include ▲Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) actively utilizing BIM ▲productivity improvement through MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) modularization ▲IoT-based site safety management ▲management optimization through construction automation.
The ‘Smart Construction Challenge,’ launched last year, is a competition hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to share and expand the achievements of various construction companies and small and medium-sized enterprises aiming to make construction sites safer and more efficient through advanced technologies. The competition was divided into categories including smart safety, construction automation, robotics, construction IoT·AI·sensing, and BIM SW Live.
In line with digital transformation and industrial automation trends, Hyundai Engineering & Construction showcased ‘cutting-edge patrol robots and work robot technologies’ that digitize site information and replace simple repetitive tasks with robots. The unmanned patrol robot technology developed in-house by Hyundai Engineering & Construction’s Technology Research Institute features ▲autonomous driving using SLAM ▲real-time site monitoring ▲AI vision safety and fire detection ▲laser scanner data acquisition ▲material and equipment QR code management ▲hazard zone access detection and warning transmission. Work robots introduced include unmanned internal and external walking work technology for slurry coating equipment and anchoring robots featuring ▲vision sensing-based marker recognition, ▲collaborative robots, vision, and drilling integration technology.
A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official said, "These awards recognize our company’s efforts to improve construction quality and prevent safety accidents through the establishment of a smart construction environment." He added, "We will lead the paradigm shift in the construction industry by continuously developing technologies and building a smart construction environment."
