[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Hyundai Rotem has completed the delivery of electric trains to Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Hyundai Rotem announced on the 1st that it has finished delivering electric trains to be deployed on the extended section of Almaty Metro Line 1, which was ordered in 2018. On November 30th, Hyundai Rotem held a ceremony at the Almaty Metro train depot to commemorate the completion of delivery, attended by key figures including the Deputy Mayor of Almaty, the Director of the Vehicle Bureau, the President of Almaty Metro, and the Consul General in Almaty.
An official from Almaty City who attended the event stated, "Hyundai Rotem’s electric trains are already operating on Almaty Metro Line 1, and passenger satisfaction is high, so expectations for the new trains are great."
Hyundai Rotem’s business in Kazakhstan began in 2008 with the order for electric trains for Almaty Metro Line 1. In 2011, it signed a contract to supply signaling system equipment. This was noted as the first case of exporting a domestically developed railway signaling system overseas, drawing attention. Through the delivery of vehicles and signaling systems, Hyundai Rotem played an important role in the operation of Almaty Metro Line 1.

As Almaty Metro Line 1 was Kazakhstan’s first subway, both the implementing agency and passengers had high expectations for the project. Hyundai Rotem received favorable reviews for successfully delivering high-quality trains, which also influenced the order for the 2018 extension line trains that were recently delivered.
Currently, Almaty Metro Line 1 is the only subway line in Kazakhstan, and with this delivery of electric trains, the entire subway vehicle fleet and signaling system in Kazakhstan are now equipped with Hyundai Rotem products. Based on its achievements in Kazakhstan so far, Hyundai Rotem plans to actively pursue the Almaty Metro projects for Lines 2 and 3, which are planned for the future.
A Hyundai Rotem official said, "Based on our successful track record, we will expand our business to additional projects in Kazakhstan and to neighboring countries in the region."
