[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the number of new COVID-19 cases in Seoul was tentatively counted at 1,803 over a 21-hour period from midnight to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, the 30th.
This is the highest record ever for the same time period. It surpassed the previous record of 1,587 cases on the 26th by 216, setting a new record in just four days. Compared to the same time on the previous day (29th), when there were 1,093 cases, it increased by 710, and compared to a week ago (23rd), when there were 1,509 cases, it rose by 294.
The daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul surged from the 400-700 range in the last week of last month to 1,004 on the 2nd of this month, then 1,436 on the 16th, 1,734 on the 23rd, 1,760 on the 24th, and 1,888 on the 26th, breaking the all-time high record four times this month alone. From the 13th to the 29th of this month, the daily record has been broken for 17 consecutive days.
On the 29th, the number of tests conducted reached a record high of 127,196 in a single day, and the confirmed cases on the 30th, reflecting the results of those tests, appear to have surged sharply compared to the previous day. As of 9 p.m. on that day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Seoul was tentatively counted at 150,689.
The final tally of total confirmed cases for the day will be compiled as of midnight on December 1st and announced in the morning.
