[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Cheon-seok] Jeollanam-do Boseong-gun (Governor Kim Cheol-woo) announced on the 30th that it will pay the Basic Public Interest Direct Payment (hereinafter referred to as Public Interest Direct Payment).

The scale of the Public Interest Direct Payment in Boseong-gun this time is KRW 22.937 billion for 9,458 farms, with an average amount received per farm of about KRW 2.4 million.

By cultivation scale, the small-scale direct payment paid to farmers cultivating 0.1 to 0.5 ha or less is KRW 4.4 billion (3,716 farms), and the area-based direct payment, which is divided into three stages according to the cultivation area of 0.5 to 2 ha, 2 to 6 ha, and over 6 ha, and paid by applying a regressive unit price, is KRW 18.5 billion (5,742 farms).

In particular, the small-scale direct payment paid per farm unit is KRW 1.2 million regardless of area if seven payment conditions are met (cultivation of 0.5 ha or less, farmland ownership area less than 1.55 ha, rural residence for more than 3 years, farming engagement for more than 3 years, non-farming income less than KRW 20 million per individual or KRW 45 million per farm, etc.).

Governor Kim Cheol-woo said, “I am glad that the faces of the farmers, who have had a hard time, are full of smiles with the bumper harvest that came after several years and the Public Interest Direct Payment added,” and “We will continue to strive to increase farmers' income.”

Meanwhile, the Basic Public Interest Direct Payment system was implemented from May last year to complement the existing direct payment system, which favored paddy farming over dry-field farming and was advantageous to large-scale farms over small-scale farms, to resolve the rice concentration phenomenon, and to enhance income stabilization functions for small and medium-sized farms to improve fairness among farms.
