[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon National University (President Ko Young-jin) Education Innovation Headquarters Liberal Arts Education Center announced on the 30th that it was selected as an ‘Outstanding Improvement University’ in the ‘University Liberal Arts Education Follow-up Monitoring Project’ conducted by the Korean Foundation for University General Education, affiliated with the Korean Council for University Education (hereinafter referred to as Kyo-gi-won).
Kyo-gi-won conducts a ‘consulting follow-up monitoring project’ targeting universities that have received liberal arts education consulting to support the continuous development of liberal arts education, and encourages the improvement efforts of the target universities by discovering and awarding excellent cases of liberal arts education improvement.
In this year’s follow-up monitoring evaluation, which focused on the degree of improvement before and after consulting and voluntary improvement efforts of the applying universities, and was conducted based on three criteria: ▲fidelity of improvement results ▲appropriateness of improvement cases ▲usability, Suncheon National University was selected as an ‘Outstanding Improvement University.’
An official from Suncheon National University’s Liberal Arts Education Center explained, “Through a proposal contest for liberal arts courses targeting students, new liberal arts courses such as ‘Understanding YouTube,’ ‘Stories of Finance,’ ‘Understanding Artificial Intelligence,’ ‘Psychology of Coexistence,’ and ‘Animals and Roommates’ were discovered and operated. We also formed a student consulting group to conduct satisfaction surveys, and provided segmented curricula by target, such as engineering major clinics and basic learning tutoring, to offer foundational education according to learning levels. These efforts were recognized as excellent improvement cases.”
Suncheon National University Dean of Academic Affairs (also Head of Education Innovation Headquarters) Kang Ui-sung said, “This good result was achieved through the efforts of our members to provide liberal arts education that fits the changing times and university characteristics,” and added, “Going forward, Suncheon National University will continue to strive to make the results of the newly reorganized liberal arts curriculum visible through research and development of liberal arts education courses that contribute to the development and happiness of the local community.”
