Gwangyang City Council SanGeon Committee Inspects Major Project Sites

On-site Inspection of Gwangyang Port Hinterland Power Supply Facilities and Hazardous Area Improvement Projects

Gwangyang City Council SanGeon Committee Inspects Major Project Sites

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Industry and Construction Committee of Gwangyang City Council, Jeollanam-do (Chairman Jeong Min-gi), announced on the 30th, during the 2021 administrative audit period, that it conducted on-site legislative activities to assess the status of major project sites.

This site visit was carried out to closely examine major project sites that cannot be verified through document audits alone, to identify the appropriateness and issues of the projects, and to seek improvement measures together.

The committee visited the power supply facility site in the Gwangyang Port hinterland area in Sepung-ri, Gwangyang-eup, stating that the continuously occurring civil complaints are the result of distrust due to lack of communication, and urged communication with residents. Regarding the stone retaining wall collapse in the Wanggum Village hazard zone, it was mentioned that a thorough review is needed to determine whether it was due to design or construction errors.

For the creation of a small business complex space for farmers, the committee requested a review of comprehensive utilization plans after completion, and for the steep slope collapse hazard zone in Okgok Myeongju 2 District, they checked the project progress and the number of parking spaces created.

At the site, the council members emphasized that "it is important to ascertain the appropriateness of budget execution when promoting projects," and stated, "We will regularly inspect the overall site conditions including safety management of project sites, project progress, and communication with local residents."

Chairman Jeong Min-gi stated, "As this is the time to conclude the 2021 municipal administration tasks, we will conduct an in-depth inspection of the projects promoted by the executing agencies to ensure a substantial audit," and added, "We will actively reflect on whether there are any unnecessary or wasteful budgets during the review of the 2022 budget proposal."
