Accusation Group "Election Interference... Violation of Public Official Election Act"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Cartoonist Yoon Seo-in, who said that presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea "seems to have assaulted (his wife) Kim Hye-kyung" during her fall accident, has become the subject of a police investigation.
On the 30th, the police stated, "The case in which the civic group Anti-Corruption National Participation Solidarity filed a complaint against Yoon at the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters on December 12 for false statements and defamation of a candidate under the Public Official Election Act has been assigned to the Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul, and the complainant's investigation will take place on December 1."
The group explained the reason for the complaint, saying, "It created the perception that Candidate Lee is a bad presidential candidate who committed domestic violence by assaulting his wife's face and causing her to faint, interfering in the election to prevent voters from making the right choice."
Earlier, on the 9th, Yoon wrote on his Facebook, "No matter how you look at it, it seems like an XXX fan. It's strange that not a single photo has been released, and perhaps the face or similar area is severely torn." The next day, he also said, "How can you see your wife 'fainting' at 1:30 a.m.? Unless he directly influenced the process, it wouldn't be easy to see that in real time. Hmm."
The complainant group raised their voice, stating, "Since the post was written with the purpose of causing Candidate Lee to lose the election, it constitutes a violation of the Public Official Election Act."
Meanwhile, on the 17th, Yoon also stirred controversy by sharing a post from the Ministry of National Defense commemorating the Day of the Patriotic Martyrs, commenting, "Ignoring the countless patriotic martyrs and soldiers of the Republic of Korea who fought with Han, suddenly bringing up An Jung-geun, who has nothing to do with the Korean military, is a strange anti-Japan Northern Department."
Additionally, in January, he received much criticism for posting a photo and text comparing the "house of pro-Japanese descendants" and the "house of independence activists' descendants," saying, "While the descendants of pro-Japanese collaborators live diligently, what on earth have the descendants of independence activists been doing?"
