[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The global logistics and transportation company, Germany's DB Schenker, has broken ground on a global distribution center in the airport logistics complex of Yeongjong International City within the Incheon Free Economic Zone.
According to the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority on the 30th, DB Schenker plans to invest approximately 54 billion KRW by 2023 to complete a center on a 13,440㎡ site, consisting of one basement floor and seven above-ground floors.
Once operational, the center is expected to serve as DB Schenker's logistics hub for pharmaceuticals and semiconductors in the Asia region.
Since last year, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority has supported resolving regulatory and permitting challenges within the airport logistics complex to attract DB Schenker's investment in establishing the distribution center.
DB Schenker was founded in 1872 in Vienna, Austria, and has a history and tradition of participating in Europe's post-World War reconstruction efforts. Currently, it is a global company with the German state railway company holding the largest share.
Dirk Lukat, CEO of Schenker Korea, stated, "Schenker's global distribution center will serve as DB Schenker's Asian logistics hub, showcasing innovative storage solutions."
