Arrest Warrant Requested for Shinan Salt Farm Operator Over Years of Wage Arrears

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] An operator of a salt farm in Sinan has had an arrest warrant requested on charges of withholding wages for several years, improperly using credit cards in employees' names, and fraudulently obtaining loans under workers' names.

According to the police on the 30th, the Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency applied for an arrest warrant for the salt farm operator A (48) on charges including fraud.

A is suspected of improperly using credit cards in employees' names and fraudulently obtaining loans under workers' names for over seven years.

He is also accused of deceiving workers by promising to send money to their families but transferring it to his own account.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor is also investigating the exact scale of wage arrears and the affected individuals.

The police have investigated 11 workers who worked at the salt farm and conducted multiple searches of the salt farm and A's residence.

So far, there have been no statements indicating confinement or assault, and some victims suspected of intellectual disabilities are undergoing diagnostic examinations at specialized institutions.

The police are reportedly considering applying additional charges for violations of the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities Act if intellectual disabilities are confirmed.
